HeinzelCheeseTalk no 19: Poland and Greece in form of cheese and wine. Friday, Oct 9, 2015

Poland and Greece – what do those have in common, you’re probably wondering. Well, nothing in particular except for the fact that I’m first traveling up north and east, and then going down south – before coming straight to you to our table at the Markthalle Neun, loaded with goodies. As usual I can’t predict what I’ll find to taste, explore and enjoy together. But I’m going to Mazury and down the Vistula river, to Athens, Thessaloniki and Macedonia… » Weiterlesen…

HeinzelCheeseTalk no 18: We went Italian. And Drunk. Friday, September 25, 2015

Heinzelcheese takes German and Austrian mountain cheese as well as a selection Rhine Riesling down to the Slow Food Cheese fair in Bra/Piemont, and promises to return with the finest, most unusual cheesy stuff, just for you. Sounds good? Will be good. We’ll discuss why there are two different words for cheese in Italian, formaggio and cacio, how a cheese gets drunk (no, not in your stomach, way before!), and much more I don’t know about yet. » Weiterlesen…

HeinzelCheeseTalk no 17: Blomeyer meets Stahl – September 4, 2015

Heinzelcheese was very proud and honored to have two giants at her side this time: Fritz Lloyd Blomeyer, Berlin cheesemonger 2.0, and Christian Stahl, self-styled winegrower who has been sowing the seeds of disruptive creativity in his home region of Franken ever since he started making wine in the family farm’s former pigstall in Auernhofen. Fritz brought his most exciting and unusual wares, Christian poured… those guys know how to jam it! » Weiterlesen…

HeinzelCheeseTalk no 16: Austria! Friday, August 14, 2015

I had been climbing up Austrian Alpine hills and busied myself tasting through one wine cellar after another – all for you, my HeinzelCheeseTalk faithfuls! There is so much more exciting cheese to be discovered in our (mostly) idyllic neighbor country than most of us would expect. And so much gorgeous wine, of course, where this time I focussed on Grüner Veltliner in its concentrated, delicious form. All of this we explored together upon my return to Berlin, loaded with good stuff. » Weiterlesen…

HeinzelCheeseTalk Special: Greek Feta and Greek wines. Saturday July 18th, 5pm

Feta is one of those things many of us just take for granted. For so granted that we don’t even think about it. A cheese nobody could possibly object to, readily available and affordable, to use in a salad, to crumble over roasted veggies… HeinzelCheese was no exception in this – until last fall at the Salone del Gusto in Turin I met a group of Feta producers from Thessaly. » Weiterlesen…

HeinzelCheeseTalk no 15 stays (almost) home: cheese from the Schaalsee! Friday June 26th, 2015

Last time we had been oh so far with cheese and wines from North America, this time we stayed oh so close to home. Think global, act local – in HeinzelCheeseTalk this translates in knowing your cheeses worldwide while never neglecting what’s made in front of your doorstep. We therefore explored the cheeses from two cheese makers who call the beautiful Schaalsee halfway between Berlin and Hamburg their home. » Weiterlesen…

Atemwende and Mothertongue: let’s explore. Berlin, Saturday April 11, 2015

It might not always seem to be the case in HeinzelCheese country, but I assure you, even here life is more than cheese and wine… Therefore I’d love to see you at this event in Berlin, on Saturday April 11. I am honored to be in the company of all those awesome artists. And, just in case you wondered: there will be wine and cheese involved.

HeinzelCheeseTalk no 11: Parmigiano Reggiano and Friends! Friday 13 March, 2015

I’ve finally been to Modena and the surrounding Emilia Romagna around that balsamico-famous town. It’s been my first time to meet up with venerable old Parmigiano Reggiano on his home turf! And of course there were a few slices of prosciutto di Parma and a few drops of Aceto Balsamico on the way… But for you, my HeinzelCheeseTalk past and future faithfuls, I came back loaded with cheesy goodness, to be explored at our big table at the Markthalle Neun. » Weiterlesen…

HeinzelCheeseTalk no 10: real cheese from Spain – February 20th, 2015

Hola, amigos del queso! This was the tenth HeinzelCheeseTalk and therefore a special one: we had a fantastic Spanish cheese guest who brought us the real stuff from his home country and told us all about it. David Raya Moreno runs, together with the ever smiling Marta, the Gusto Artesano stall at Markthalle Neun. » Weiterlesen…

HeinzelCheeseTalk no 9: Camembert! Friday, Jan 30, 2015

I bet you thought you knew exactly what kind of cheese Camembert is. Round, white on the outside, yellow on the inside, soft, made from cow’s milk, rather mild. And the posher versions come in fancy little wooden boxes… well, yes, of course. Problem is, in contrast to Comté or Roquefort, the name as such isn’t protected. Which means that a lot of cheeses fitting more or less those descriptors, come to market under it. » Weiterlesen…
