Der Juli in Heinzelcheese-Land war üppig gefüllt mit wunderbaren Menschen, Landschaften, Weinen, Käse und Reisen. Das zieht sich bis in diesen neuen Monat, und deshalb ist mein Käse für den August wie so oft ein Reisemitbringsel, nämlich Shana Miller’s Grey Baby aus Naramata im wunderschönen Okanagan Valley im Westen Kanadas.

It was a quickie: we had one hour overlap between her getting out of the weekly summer closure and me having to run to the airport. Szent György-hegy and Badacsony – no, I hadn’t heard about this region either before tasting these wines. But those northern shores of Lake Balaton, west of Budapest look dreamy on pictures. And the wines Robert Gilvesy sent me to taste had something special. Feta bröckelt mit Gurke, Tomaten, Oliven und Zwiebeln im Salat, Feta würzt Spanakopita, Spinat-Teigfladen, und füllt Tyropita, Käsefladen. Feta gehört mit Oliven und Sardinen zum Aperitifglas Tsipouro, dem makedonischen, anisduftenden Tresterbrand. Feta ist mit Honig und Sesam-Teigkringel Frühstück. Feta ist… hmm, möchte ich das jetzt wirklich schreiben? Doch. Augen zu, durch: Feta ist ein demokratischer Käse, für alle, quasi immer.
